World Enviornment Day Celebration




World Environment Day, held on June 5th every year is an environmental awareness day, run by the United Nations. The aim of the Day is to raise awareness of the environment and specific environmental issues.  This day helps to raise the global awareness about the importance of the healthy and green environment in the human lives, to solve the environmental issues by implementing some positive environmental actions as well as to make aware common public worldwide that everyone is responsible for saving his environment and not only somebody, government or organizations working for it.

Every year there is a new main focus for WED. This year the focus is ‘Air Pollution’. It invites us to Clearing the Air and combatting Air Pollution.

Good Shepherd Higher Secondary School, Jongksha has been in forefront to raise awareness among our students and staff regarding the need to keep our environment healthy and clean.  Every year we organize events towards this.  Students of our eco club unit does many activities towards nurturing the nature.  Kitchen garden, catchment area, planting trees, season watch are some of the programmes that our students undertake to keep our environment healthy and generate interest in our students towards this.

This year too, members our Eco Club with the help of their animators took initiatives in celebrating this day in our school.  Shri. C P Syiem, State Coordinator SCSTE was the chief guest of the day and Shri. Olet Kharsahnoh, Sordar Shnong of Jongksha was the Guest of honour.  Both of them highlighted the importance of taking care of our mother earth and appreciated the school for taking initiatives for the same.  After the function, 100 saplings were palnted in the school campus by the guests and students.  In the afternoon a painting competition was organized for the students.
